ABOUT US AND HOW WE CAME TO BE INVOLVED WITH GLUTEN/WHEAT FREE PRODUCE |
|
We took over the Madhatters Tearooms/Restaurant on December the 22nd 2006, putting a lot of time into the tearoom and menu. All home cooked quality fayre was our aim. After a while we started to attract quite a bit of local trade as well as tourist trade. This was due to the home cooked fayre that we offered on our menu. |

GLUTEN FREE FOOD Some of our local customers asked for gluten free food, we had none to offer. We felt that we should be able to cater for everyone who came to the tearooms and started to experiment with gluten free produce. Once we were happy with an item and were prepared to eat it ourselves it was added to the menu. Over a period of a few months we have built the menu up and intend to keep adding to it. Even some of the products on our ordinary menu are now gluten free and it is our aim to change even more of them to gluten free. |

We did not realise just how widespread the problem of eating is and how serious a problem the food can be to some sufferers. For example, a gentleman came into the tearoom and took home some of our Cornish Fairings and a Pasty for his wife. We had a call from her as she was afraid to eat it due to being hospitalised through eating other produce. We reassured her that the produce was safe for her to eat and she was very grateful. It must be awful to be in that situation and this is just one of the things that have a great affect on the way that we feel about supplying the produce. On another ocassion a mother and daughter came in and took two of our Cornish pasties to eat out. The young girl was very excited and said that she had never been able to have one before. Later she came back in and thanked my wife for making the pasty for her, this really made our day and hard work worthwhile. These are just two incidents out of many. |

THIS WEBSITE We decided to build this site as the demand for our produce is growing. We have calls from various locations throughout the country from people coming to Cornwall on self catering holidays. Orders are being placed for collection to stock up thier holiday cottages and to take back with them for home freezing. We also felt that it would be nice to share our recipes with others and encourage them to send recipes to be included in the site. Basic recipes to produce good quality home made food that everyone in the home can enjoy and not just the people with the problem, this is our aim. We do not have a problem but we certainly eat and enjoy some of the produce that we cook as do many of our customers who are also problem free. Please browse the site and please send us any comments or criticisms you may have along with your recipes. |
