Interesting Facts
about Launceston Gallows Hill -
Launceston had two gallows, one at Castle Green and one at
St. Stephen's Down. Two men were hung in 1805 for burgling
Launceston Post Office. They were taken up to gallows hill
in a cart followed by a large crowd. A local Landlady
climbed up onto the cart and kissed them before they were
hung.
