Interesting Facts about Launceston

During the Napoleonic Wars Launceston was a parole town. French prisoners of war were billeted in Launceston and householders accommodating them were given a half guinea a week for their upkeep. They were mostly Officers or well educated and benefitted the area during their stay. Lawrence House Museum has historical facts available on this.
