about Launceston During the
Napoleonic Wars Launceston was a parole town. French
prisoners of war were billeted in Launceston and
householders accommodating them were given a half guinea a
week for their upkeep. They were mostly Officers or well
educated and benefitted the area during their stay. Lawrence
